Radioactive Iodine Treatment

Radioactive iodine is used to treat thyroid cancer. Thus, the remaining cancer cells are destroyed after thyroid cancer surgery. This treatment modality increases the life expectancy of papillary and follicular thyroid cancer patients.

Radioactive iodine, administered orally in the form of a pill after surgery, is collected in the thyroid gland cells and the radiation it emits stops the growth of the thyroid cells without damaging the other parts of the body and prevents it from working.
